The Lucia Whalen Bremer Scholarship Fund

There has been a lot of interest from our community as to how we can support the Bremer family of Liberty Tree Farm. Just a week ago, they lost their beautiful daughter. Lucia, in a tragic shooting. Here is the latest information we have for you. Rest assured that we'll keep this page updated to let you know how you can help.

Those who want to send a note or card to the family can write to them care of the West End Farmers Market Manager. Here's the address: The Bremers, c/o Jennifer Sullivan, 10721 Old Prescott Road, Henrico, VA 23238.

All donations to The Lucia Whalen Bremer Memorial Scholarship Fund will honor the life and carry on the light of Lucia Whalen Bremer through an annual scholarship program. Lucia was loved by so many and brought joy and determination to everything she did. Lucia was a dedicated soccer player and swimmer; a curious and eager learner; and, above all, a kind soul. She was a vital piece of the workings of her family’s farm, and knew every type of vegetable planted on the grounds. She was the brightest light. We thank you for your generous support to help us carry on Lucia’s memory through this fund.

We are proud to be working with Birdhouse Market, West End Farmers Market, and St. Stephens Market, all of which are associated with Liberty Tree Farm, to help channel support to the Bremers. All of us are grateful for the generosity and support of those of you who are avid supporters of local food. A couple of days ago, Stephanie Ganz of Richmond Magazine wrote a nice piece about this community. Click here to read "United in Sorrow."

We will update information as it comes in.
